I am so new to this stuff. I am trying to add the Pink Stamper's button to my blog, but am not sure whether I have succeeded or not. Hope so! I sure do want to win that Cricut Expressions machine!

It Begins!

Well, I have to catch up with my friends and join the cyber-world of blogging, not that I think anyone is going to be especially interested in what I have to say, but who knows?

In any event, it has been fun setting up the layout and choosing the things to go on this blogspot. What do I want people to know about me? Do I want to put my contact information out there for everyone to see? I mentioned being a grammy, but do I really want to put my precious grandson's picture out there for just anyone to look at? Maybe. I'm awfully proud of him, and want to share him with just everyone, but at the same time, I sure don't want to do anything that would embarass him or endanger him.

So, for now I'll stick to safe things. Everyone who knows me knows I love JEWELRY!!! Lots of sparkly jewelry. In the way of gemstones, my fave is opals. Hence, the picture on the top of my blog... photos of Australian opals, the most colorful ones. The slide show is supposed to be of opal jewelry, but may have some other things mixed in as well.

I also love to read, but I doubt most people would be interested in reading the same things I like to read (historical romance). I get enough reality in my everyday life, so I read for pure entertainment and enjoyment and escape. I make no apologies! Over the course of my life I can say I have probably read thousands of books. Some of them have been re-printed and I have unknowingly started reading them again. hahaha. They were so good, and I had forgotten the plot, so what the hey, I just finished them. That's the good thing about reading so much, you can enjoy some books over and over again.

Scrapbooking and papercrafts have become a hobby of mine in the past 11 years. It began when my father died and I made 5 scrapbooks for family. It was a lot of fun and very cathartic. Seeing photos of relatives that had long since passed away was like visiting with them again. I laughed and I cried, and laughed some more. My scrapbooks are pretty crude by today's standards, but they achieved their purpose, which was to share photos that I had with my brother and sister, and with my children, and to identify for them people they would otherwise not know about.

Other crafts I enjoy are needlework--anything that is completely useful, but pretty. I love crazy-quilt embroidery. It's "tastefully gaudy" as my friend Sandra would say. Embellish to your hearts content. The more "stuff" the better. And it's a chance to break all the rules. I also like counted cross-stitch, but that's one type of needlework where NO rules can be broken. It's strictly a numbers thing. Do four stitches in this color, and three and a half in this one. Much later, you have a recognizable picture. It is enjoyable, but doesn't allow for a lot of artistic freedom.

My family is very precious to me. Hub, both my sons, my daughter in law, and soon to be daughter in law, and certainly not least (well maybe he IS the least)..Jacob, my grandson. He's the tiniest little Duecy, but has lots of personality for one so young. I am loving watching him grow and learn things. I think when my children were young I was too busy to pay proper attention to seeing them actually learning. It is amazing to watch Jacob learn. Even at 9 months old, I watched him learn to knock down blocks and learn to play ball with me. So fun, and such precious memories.

Pat and I have 3 dogs. Tonka, a blue-heeler, George, a Corgi, and Gracie, a wire-haired terrier. We love them dearly. Since our kids are grown and gone, the dogs are our replacement kids. Our pipe dream is that someday we will win the lottery and can buy a big farm and have lots and lots of DOGS and puppies! We don't dislike cats, but are both allergic to them (sorry catlovers).

So, that's me in a nut shell.

Welcome to my blog.

Susan
